What is Gel AGM Battery
Gel AGM Battery use different technology compared to lead acid batteries. It uses a fibre Boron-Silicate glass separator which absorbs the electrolyte. Gel AGM Batterys are spill proof.During the charging of Gel AGM Battery, Hydrogen and Oxygen is generated, and due to the presence of small catalysts the hydrogen and oxygen combines to form water. The recombining results in nearly zero water loss and wears out heat generation too.The charging techniques and voltages used for charging AGM batteries are similar to standard batteries.

Sulfation is the property of lead-acid batteries, where there is a gradual accumulation of lead sulfate crystals in the cells. In most cases, it is the cause of failure in lead-acid batteries. Sulfation mostly occurs when the battery is not fully charged, and thus the crystals continuously build up on the plates. When this process goes out of hand, it prevents the efficient conversion of chemical to electrical energy. Charging Process
The battery, in general, receives an external voltage supply at the charging electrodes. This results in electrons being transferred from the positive plate to the negative one, producing hydrogen ions (H+) at the negative and sulfate ions (SO4^2-) at the positive plate.
Discharging process
At this stage, when a device or load is connected to the battery, all the reactions reverse back. Therefore, during discharging, electrons flow from the negative plate towards the positive, and therefore, current flows, thus energizing a connected device. The cycle repeats itself up to the time its capacity has been depleted.
Voltage Stability
Due to their stable voltage, AGM batteries provide power steadily in the course of their discharge cycle. This makes them preferable to use in applications where switch-on and switch-off operations in the supply voltage are critical.
Deep Discharge Tolerance

Electrode sheets

Separator sheets

Liquid electrolyte
Liquid electrolyte is poured into cells and absorbed by the separator sheets. It allows the electric current to go through the separators.
Cell casings
Cell casings are typically made of nickel-plated steel, as the nickel plating prevents the steel from reacting with the electrolyte. Casings can also be made of aluminum for the same reason.

Process of Gel AGM Battery
Mixing the Electrode Materials
The first step in electrode manufacturing is the precise mixing of electrode materials. This process blends crucial components, such as lithium compounds and conductive additives, to form a homogeneous mixture. Achieving the perfect blend ensures the electrode's performance and overall battery efficiency.
Formation of Slurry
Once the materials are mixed, a conductive binder is introduced to create a slurry. This slurry-like substance facilitates the coating process during the next stage. It plays a crucial role in maintaining the structural integrity and conductivity of the electrode.
Coating onto Current Collectors
The slurry is then evenly coated onto current collectors, typically made of copper or aluminum foil. A controlled application ensures uniformity, thickness, and optimal adhesion of the electrode material. This coating process forms the foundation of the electrode's structure.
Drying and Calendaring
After coating, the foils are subjected to a drying process to remove solvents and moisture. This step ensures the integrity of the electrode structure and prevents potential defects. Subsequently, calendaring machines apply pressure to adjust the physical properties of the electrodes, enhancing their mechanical stability.
Cleaning and Cutting
Once the electrodes are finished, they undergo a cleaning process to remove any residual impurities or contaminants. Then, they are meticulously cut into narrow strips, preparing them for the subsequent stages of the battery production line.
Vacuum Oven Treatment
Finally, the cut electrodes are sent to a vacuum oven for thorough drying. The controlled environment within the vacuum oven removes any remaining moisture, ensuring the electrodes' optimal performance and quality.
How to Maintain Gel AGM Battery
Check the Electrolyte Level
One of the most important aspects of lead-acid battery maintenance is checking the electrolyte level regularly. The electrolyte level should be checked every 1-3 months, depending on the battery's usage and the environmental conditions. The electrolyte level should be above the top of the plates but below the level of the vent caps.Distilled water needs to be added to raise the sodium content if it is too low. Never add tap water or any other type of water, as this can cause the battery to degrade more quickly.
Keep the Battery Clean
Another important aspect of lead-acid battery maintenance is keeping the battery clean. The battery's terminals may become clogged with dirt and detritus, which shortens the battery's lifetime and makes the battery discharge more rapidly.To clean the battery, use a wire brush or a battery cleaner spray to remove any dirt or corrosion on the terminals. When cleansing the battery, make sure to put on mitts and safety goggles to prevent coming into touch with the electrolyte.
Charge the Battery Regularly
Even when not in use, lead-acid batteries need to be charged on a frequent basis. If a battery is left discharged for an extended period of time, it can cause sulfation, which is a buildup of lead sulfate crystals on the plates. The volume and efficiency of the battery may be affected.To prevent sulfation, charge the battery regularly, especially if it is not being used frequently. Use an adapter made for lead-acid batteries and charge the battery according to the manufacturer's directions.
Store the Battery Properly
It's crucial to maintain your lead-acid battery correctly if you need to keep it for a long time. The cell needs to be kept in a cool, dry location away from heat sources and sunshine. Make sure the battery is completely charged and unplugged from any equipment or gadgets before putting it away.
Monitor the Battery's Performance
Finally, it's important to monitor the battery's performance regularly. This can be done by checking the voltage and specific gravity of the electrolyte using a voltmeter and a hydrometer, respectively.
