What is 12V Deep Cycle AGM Battery
The term "AGM" stands for "Absorbed Glass Mat." An AGM battery is a premium type of valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) battery that offers significant advantages over traditional flooded lead-acid batteries. In an AGM battery, the electrolyte solution is absorbed into a specialized glass fiber mat sandwiched between the battery's positive and negative plates. This unique design completely contains the electrolyte, preventing any potential leakage or spillage. AGM batteries are classified as sealed, maintenance-free batteries because the electrolyte never needs to be refilled. Their spill-proof, leak-proof construction allows AGM batteries to be mounted in any orientation without risk. This sealed, absorbed glass mat design is what gives AGM batteries their distinctive performance benefits over standard batteries, making them ideal for renewable energy systems, vehicles, and backup power applications.
Benefits of 12V Deep Cycle AGM Battery
Higher durability
12v deep cycle agm battery were originally designed for use in military craft. The thin fiberglass mats are saturated in acid and soldered into place before being compressed between the lead plates, effectively holding the battery's electrolyte in place. As a result, 12v deep cycle agm battery have a greater resistance to vibration and impact damage than flooded batteries. The tight configuration of glass mats and lead also enables 12v deep cycle agm battery to tolerate higher temperature fluctuations and makes them more resistant to sulfation. If water is not added to replenish lost electrolyte in the vents, the battery will corrode and die. 12v deep cycle agm battery, on the other hand, are completely sealed and don't require any additional maintenance past plugging them in to charge. These batteries are so packed with ultra-thin fiberglass mats and lead that they naturally hold electrolyte in place, preventing water loss and reducing battery maintenance.

Wet cell batteries have a greater risk of spilling and exposing operators and mechanics to their hazardous internal chemicals. How Do I Know If My Battery is Agm?

Battery type is usually instructed on the product labels on the body of a battery. If the label is illegible, you can also check its user manual for specifications, ask the online store or go to the store where you bought the battery.
Observe the top of your battery
AGM batteries are specifically designed with negative and positive terminals that protrude from their flat top. If you find such terminals, you can be 99.99% certain your battery is an AGM battery.
Slightly shake the battery
Highly not recommend to do this step, but since you still cannot identify your battery after going through the methods previously mentioned, this will be the ultimate choice you have to resort to.

How To Charge AGM Battery
The Charger
If you are using a VRLA battery smart charger, it is certainly the best choice. Can we use a regular charger?Well, it depends. You have to be very professional and careful, as well as follow the principle of three-stage charging.The whole process could be very complicated, so in general, it is still recommended to have a dedicated smart charger.
Three Stages Charging
The THREE STAGES CHARGING are Constant Current charge (bulk charging), Constant Voltage charge (absorption charge), and Supplemental charge (float charging).The 1st stage is constant current charging, CC for short name. We set the charger voltage to the battery (pack) cycle charge voltage, and the current to the cycle charge current. Please note that too high voltage or too high current will overcharge the battery and damage the battery. The specific voltage and current will be explained in detail in the next 2 parts. During this phase, the battery voltage rises to a constant number.
Charge Voltage
The charge voltage includes cycle charge voltage and float charge voltage, fast charge voltage. In general, the float charge voltage is used for daily floating charges, the lowest. Cycle charge voltage is used for recharging after discharged to a certain depth, it is higher. Fast charge is the voltage of rapid full charge under an emergency condition, the highest, not commonly used.
Conditions without Print
If the charge voltage is not indicated on the battery, the reasonable cycle charge voltage can be estimated according to the open-circuit voltage (OCV) when the battery is fully charged. Generally, the open-circuit voltage of the 12V battery when fully charged plus 1~1.5V is a reasonable cycle charge voltage.If you do not know the open-circuit voltage when the battery is fully charged, you can occasionally charge with 2.4V per cell blindly, but it is more difficult to judge when the battery is full. There may be overcharge, causing certain damage to the battery. Note that it's 2.4V per cell, NOT 2.4V per unit.
How to Maintain 12V Deep Cycle AGM Battery
Storing your AGM battery
When you are storing your AGM battery for longer periods, always remember to recharge. Store your battery in a place that has enough ventilation and ensure it is a cool and dry store. Avoid keeping your battery in a discharged state, as this will lead to sulfation.
Sulfation prevention
When the sulfuric acid found in the lead-acid batteries react, especially in the negative plate, it will form lead sulfate, which results in sulfation. Sulfation reduces the battery's ability to hold a charge. Keeping your AGM battery charged during and before storage will help to avoid the process of sulfation. In case sulfation occurs on your AGM battery, use a desulfation charge to reverse the sulfation. You can also use the AGM battery recommended charger to lower the impact of sulfation.
Do not overcharge the AGM battery
Maintaining the performance of your AGM battery demands correct charging. The internal structures of your AGM battery can be damaged due to overcharging. Likewise, the lifespan of your AGM battery can be reduced due to undercharging. To effectively charge your AGM battery, determine what the correct voltage should be, as written in the manufacturer's instructions. Avoid using a traditional petrol generator to charge your AGM battery.
Use the manufacturer's recommended charger
Every AGM battery has a recommended charger, as per the manufacturer. The manufacturer's charger ensures the delivery of the recommended voltage to the AGM battery without undercharging nor overcharging. When the wrong charger is used, it can cause sulfation to your AGM battery.
